"The death of Ms. Lucina Webb, widow of the late Frederick M. Webb, at her home in Caroline last night, deserves more than a passing notice.
Her husband was a son of Peter Webb who came as a slave from Virginia with the Speed, Hyde, Patillo and Boyer families about the year 1804 and settled in Caroline. Peter by work overtime purchased his freedom just before the emancipation of a slave was in this state.
On becoming a feee man he assumed the name of Webb, reared a large family, and at the time of his death owned the farm on which he lived, adjoining the Speed homestead.
Frederic inherited the industrious, temperate Christian qualities of his father and became a highly respected citizen of the town. At the time of his marriage he did not have a dollar he could call his own, but he bought the farm adjoining his father's and by a life of industry, honesty and frugality the husband and wife finally succeeded in paying every dollar of indebtedness and owning their farm in _?_ simple as their father had done.
Mrs. Lucina Webb was a true woman in every sense of the word. To a kind and gentle disposition was added excellent judgement and pleasing ladylike manners. She was highly respected by all who knew her, and many friends will mourn over her death. Only two of their large family of children survive her--Peter Webb and Mrs. Mabel Van Dyek, both of Caroline, while James Webb, brother to Frederick, is the only remaining member of that generation."
