Obituary for Esther Crew Bratton. The Ithaca Journal, May 1, 2000, P.4.

"Esther Crew Bratton, 91, of 311 Savage Farm Drive, Ithaca, died Friday, April 28, 2000 at Cayuga Medical Center, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, C. Arthur Bratton, who died January 25, 2000.
Esther was born in West Milton, OH. She did her undergraduate work at Ohio State University in Home Economics and earned her Ph.D. at Cornell School of Human Ecology.
During her career, she taught courses throughout the United States, and published several High School and college text-books. Many times her work centered on how to make the home more efficient and the home environment more user friendly.
Esther and Art's careers took them overseas. Sabbaticals from Cornell took them to the Philippines, Japan, Hawaii, Hong Kong and China. Always acutely interested in helping students, those they became acquainted with abroad often visited them in their Ithaca home.
Mrs. Bratton was always cheerfully volunteering her time. When her children were young she worked with the PTA planning special activities. She drove for FISH (volunteer transportation services) for 25 years. She especially enjoyed her volunteer years at Cayuga Medical Center.
She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca. She taught Sunday School for many years, was on Session, and various other committees, as well as the sewing committee which she loved.
Esther and Art moved to Kendal at Ithaca, where they continued to be busy helping others as they were able. They loved the beautiful surrounding and peaceful living it provided for them. Esther was an active member of the Storyteller group where she read aloud her memories of her life and the lives of those she loved.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith Anne Vanpelt of Spencer, June Bratton Townley of Syracuse, grand-children, Matthew David MacManes and Kelly MacManes. She had two great-grandchildren, Justin Shakel and Lexi Jasia. Matthew is expecting his first daughter, Lauren Marie in May. The surviving Crew family members include a sister-in-law, niece and nephew. Surviving Bratton family include brother-in-law, sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, C. Arthur Bratton, a sister Angie Crew, and brothers John Crew. Philip Crew and Charles Crew. Her parents were Mary Rose Anderson Crew and Emmor Crew."
