“Cortez "Cort" Rumsey lived in the basement of 2 Bridge St. and would build campfires in the middle of the dirt floor to keep warm in the winter.“

Obituary: "Mrs. Gyda Rumsey Johnson, 67, a lifelong resident of Newfield, died at 4 a.m. today, June 3, 1943, in a nursing home in Newfield. The widow of Fred Johnson, she was a member of the Baptist Church ... She is survived by a brother, Cortez Rumsey of Newfield ..."
