Martha Henning Eddy was born in Saratoga Springs in 1881. She was appointed to the Cornell faculty in 1932 after the death of her husband, Edward D. Eddy, who was county attorney for Saratoga County. During World War II, Mrs. Eddy directed the Women's Land Army in New York State. At her retirement in 1949 she was an administrative extension specialist and a roving ambassador for the College of Home Economics. After her retirement from Cornell, Governor Dewey appointed Mrs. Eddy as women's director of the New York State Fair.
