  "The first Negro physician to practice in Tompkins County, Dr. Gregory Alexander Galvin, native of Virginia, has announced the formal opening of his office, to which the public is invited at 216 W. State St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday.
  Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Galvin came to Ithaca the first part of September and is making his home at 501 W. Green St. Besides conducting a general practice in medicine and surgery, Mr. Galvin plans to conduct classes and projects in community health education at the new South Side Community Center.
  After taking undergraduate work at Virginia Seminary and College, Dr. Galvin received a degree in pharmacy from Howard University and conducted a drug store for some time in Richmond. His medical training was obtained at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tenn., and his hospital training at Freedmen's Hospital, Department of the Interior, Washington, D.C. Dr. Galvin's fraternal associations include Alpha Phi Alpha, Chi Delta Mu, medical fraternity, Kappa Pi, honorary medical society, the Elks and the Masons."
