Assistant Dean [Miss Caroline Morton] of Home Economics Takes Post in Japan

"Miss Caroline Morton, associate professor and, for the last 5 years, assistant to the dean at the College of Home Economics at Cornell, will retire Sept. 1.
  She will become a teacher of home economics at a private school in Japan. At present, she is in Pasadena, Calif. She plans to go to Japan early in September.

  Miss Morton, who has been a specialist in extension administration, came to Cornell in 1919 as assistant state leader of home demonstration agents. She was active in the development of training for administrative leadership in home bureaus, helped plan material for county agents and community workers, and worked with county agents and leaders in building programs.
  Miss Morton graduated in home economics at Kansas State Agricultural College. Later she took advanced work at Stout Institute, the University of Chicago, Columbia University, Leland, Stanford, Ohio State University and Cornell. She has been head of home economics departments in the high schools of Topeka, Kan., and Highland Park, Ill., and dietitian at Lake Forest University, Illinois. Before she came to Cornell, she was home demonstration agent in Saratoga County."

Caroline Morton grant helps in establishing Eleanor Roosevelt Grant in Home Economics at Cornell.

"Caroline Morton grants helps in establishing grant
  With an initial gift of $5,000 from Caroline Morton of Santa Barbara, the Eleanor Roosevelt Grant in Home Economics has been established at the New York State College of Human Ecology, Cornell University, at Ithaca, N.Y.
  The grant, established in cooperation with the college's $250,000 anniversary campaign, will provide income for an annual grant to a student in human ecology.
  Ms. Morton did graduate work at Cornell and retired in 1951 as assistant to the dean of the college of home economics, forerunner of human ecology.
  Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, was a lecturer, writer and longtime advocate of home economics education in New York. She supported legislation that elevated the school of home economics to the college of home economics in 1925."

"Caroline Morton, 99, retired university administrator, died at the Valle Verde Health Facility. In accordance with her wishes, no services are planned.
  Ms. Morton, of 900 Calle de Los Amigos, died Saturday. She was born Dec. 2, 1885, in Hiawatha, Kan.
  She did graduate work at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and was employed there for 32 years. She retired in 1951 as assistant to the dean of the College of Home Economics.
  In 1976 she contributed $5,000 toward establishment of the Eleanor Roosevelt grant in home economics at the College of Human Ecology, formerly the College of Home Economics."
