"Norton F. Brand Dead at 77 Years
  POTSDAM -- Norton F. Brand, 77, retired American consul and author of numerous books on law, died suddenly at 2:45 this morning at the home of his step-daughter, Miss Eunice Badger, Main St.
  A native of Minnesota, he had resided in Potsdam since his retirement from government service in 1934. He served as consul in Mexico, British Columbia and Alberta."

"POTSDAM - The funeral of Norton F. Brand, 77, former U.S. consul to several countries and author of several books, will be held at the home in Main st., at 2 P.M. today. The Rev. J. Thurston Travis, rector of Trinity Church, will officiate and interment will be in Bayside Cemetery.
  A native of Fairbault[sic], Minn., he had made his home in Potsdam since 1934 upon retiring from the consular service. Mr. Brand, a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, practiced in the West for several years and was with the Philippine Government for four years as chief forestry inspector and later editor of the Official Gazette, a law publication.
  He was American consul in Salina Cruz, Mexico; Ferni, British Columbia and Calgary, Alberta. He married Harriet Viola Fritts Badger in Manila. Since retiring he had lived with a stepdaughter, Miss Eunice Badger, member of the Teachers' College faculty.
  Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Dr. Robert Brand, professor of languages at the Old Citadel, Charleston, S. C."
