“The death of Mr. George Rankin, senior member of the firm Rankin & Son, occurred last evening at his residence on East Seneca street. Mr. Rankin was one of Ithaca’s oldest, best-known and most thoroughly respected merchants. He started a crockery and glassware store here over thirty years ago and built up one of the most extensive establishments of the kind in this part of the state. In addition to his devotion to business Mr. Rankin took an active interest in religious matters and for many years he was an elder in the First Presbyterian church….”
