From the obituary of his granddaughter, Helen Cooke Jones, Ithaca Journal, May 13, 2006, 4: "She was the granddaughter of Loren Jerome Cooke, a Mohawk Indian, who is most remembered by the photo taken of him and Eleanor Roosevelt in 1938 at the dedication of the South Side Community Center."
