"William Tyler, Former Steward of City Club, Dies in the Adirondacks," Ithaca Daily Journal, May 19, 1905, 3.
William Tyler, for many years steward of the City Club, and one of the best liked colored residents here, died last night of consumption, at Saranac, in the Adirondacks.
When tidings came to his brother, John H. Tyler, the ice-cream maker, 107 Wheat street, that William could live but two or three days longer, he was so stricken that he could not make the journey to the mountains to be with William at the end. It is feared that John cannot recover entirely from the shock.
William was advised some three years ago that tuberculosis had become quite strongly established and that change of climate would better him than drugs. By the aid of club members who much esteemed him he was enabled to pass the succeeding period in the mountains, he doing such light labor there as his strength permitted. His body will be brought here for burial. He was unmarried."
