"After a lingering illness of several months Morris Patten passed away at his home on Brindley street this morning a few minutes before 12 o'clock. He was in his fifty-first year having been born in the town of Warsaw, Yates County, July 4, 1848.
In 1868 at the age of twenty years he moved to Ithaca and was employed by the Lehigh Valley railroad company as a brakeman.
Later he rented the old Stewart house on the corner of State and Brindley streets where he wan a hotel for a few years which was the favored resort of railroad men. In 1878 he purchased a lot of ground on the corner of Buffalo and Brindly streets where he erected a hotel which he conducted successfully until his death. 'Sandy,' as he was known by all railroad men was a kindhearted and liberal man. He is survived by a wife and one brother. The deceased will be laid to rest in Cayuta, New York."
