In Cornell's 1949 Directory of Students as "Scott John H Jr 51L Forest Home It6870" and 1950 Directory of Students as "Scott John H 51L 8 The Byway It6870." However, the 1949 USGS Topographic map shows a gap between 6 and 10 The Byway. An individual who was brought up in Forest Home and was 9 in 1950 and remembers occupants of houses in The Byway does not remember a house between the Cutting (10) and Bush (6) houses but thought the gap between them could have had an earlier structure. There is confusion in numbering for 8, 10, and 12 The Byway in the Ithaca city directories from 1952 (the first directory that included house numbers) to 1956 (by which time the numbering had stabilized and did not include 8). Eugene Heckman, who owned the property that became 12 The Byway from 1911 was listed in the 1952 ICD as living at and owning 108, but this was corrected to 12 for the 1953 ICD. The transcribers assume that the 5 houses on this part of the Byway in the 1949 USGS Topographic map are the same houses that exist in 2023, numbered 2,4,6,10,12 and that the group of students in the 1950 census for which John Scott was listed as Head, were renting from Heckman at 12. This is confirmed by the phone number 6870, listed for Heckman in the 1956 ICD with the address 12 The Byway.
