"This residence, originally the Whiton residence and later the home of former Governor and Mrs. Alonzo B. Cornell, was purchased by Jacob Rothschild 17 years ago from Governor Cornell's widow. It is a handsome brick structure of three stories and a basement and contains 19 rooms...
The Rothschild residence is one of Ithaca's famous landmarks. It was originally built by Miss Julia Whiton, an aunt of Frederic J. Whiton, well known local capitalist. The Whitons had their old family homestead on the site. Miss Whiton replaced the original building with the present handsome structure."
