Description
This house was erected in 1912, having been designed by its first owners, Professor Edward and Mrs. Faye Guthrie, and built by Forest Home builder William McElwee, Sr., according to Guthrie's daughter, Isabel Guthrie Russell. Since they were not architects, the Guthrie's design may have been adapted from a house plan advertised in a builders' publication of the period.  This nearly square building has a broad gable roof with front and rear cross gables which extend the entire width of the house, providing a spacious second story. Exterior walls are stucco, the roof is slate and there are one-over-one double hung windows. There is a recessed entry door on the north side of the building.

The original recessed front porch facing Judd Falls Road was enclosed ca. 1974-75. A deck was added to the rear of the house, date unknown. The garage was moved from its original site, date unknown.

Included in Forest Home Historic District with USN 10906.000019. To access the Building-Structure Inventory Form (sometimes referred to as the "Blue Form"), from which many of the details above are drawn, including the approximate year built, follow these Lookup Instructions.
