This building replaced the Tompkins County National Bank Building in 1936. It was demolished in 2018 for Harold's Square Building. See "Top 10 Development Projects, Ithaca Journal, October 7, 2017, 4A.

In 1977 McDonald's took over the first floor of this building, part of the old Newbury's building, and restored the facade.

"Two-story, four-bay, brick commercial building; street-level facade has single-story projecting frame storefront addition (1978) with large display windows and glass doors; second story retains tall, narrow, rectangular windows, shuttered; stone lintel course and concrete coping at parapet wall roofline aligns with lintel and sills courses on the adjacent Sage Building. Built 1930-1940; addition built 1978.
Historical note: In 1836, the Tompkins County Bank was founded at this location. It eventually merged with the Ithaca Trust Company in 1935. Present building built to complement William H. Miller’s adjacent Sage Building with the stone lintel course and roof aligned and matching Queen Anne sash windows in the second story. The storefronts combined to house J.J. Newberry’s discount store from the 1930s until the 1970s. In 1978, the street-level facade was altered to its present appearance and shutters were added to cover the second-story windows."
