"Two-story, five-bay, brick commercial building with concrete trim; street-level facade has a remodeled single storefront with center entrance flanked by display windows with aluminum frames set on kneewalls; upper story clad in enameled panels resembling pink marble; upper story fenestration retains alternating paired and tripled windows with original one-over-one sash and decorative concrete crowns; entablature consists of concrete architrave course, brick frieze with decorative clay tile panels, dentils, and a simple comice; pent roof is clad in glazed green S-tiles, with side-gable stepped parapet walls. Built 1924-25; addition 1940;
Historical note: From the 1880s to the 1920s, the Barr Brothers hardware store was located on this site. In 1924-25, S.S. Kresge Company built the three western bays of the present structure (123-127 E. State Street) and operated a five-and-dime store. They expanded the building to 129-131 E. State Street in 1940, remodeling a portion of an earlier three-story brick commercial building. Both the storefront and upper story have been remodeled since 1940. In 1969, the CVS drugstore chain occupied the store. Race Office Equipment and Variety Store moved to the store in 2004."
