Description
In 1979, Historic Ithaca moved the "red house" at 612 S Aurora St to its current location at 402 Hudson St.

"The moving of the “Red House,” in 1979, was Historic Ithaca’s first attempt at moving a building and was a remarkably smooth operation. The house, originally located at 612 South Aurora Street, was sold along with its site to Morse Chain Company, which then agreed to donate the house to Historic Ithaca and contributed $1,000 to assist in its moving. The new site on Hudson Street was purchased in November 1979, and by the end of December, the new owners had already moved into their new home. On the day of the moving, a crowd gathered to watch the house being pulled from its lot, moved around the corner and down the street, and finally lowered into the prepared cribbing at Hudson Street."
