"Rescuing Man Wins Medal for Ithacan
Harry D. Potter gets highest honor of National Safety Council--utility employee succeeds in saving man overcome by sewer gas.
The president's medal, highest honor of the National Safety Council, was awarded Harry D. Potter of 119 Utica Street, an employee of the New York State Electric and Gas Corporation ... Mr. Potter is credited with having saved the life of Harry Poole, a former employee of the L.M. Champaign Coal Company last autumn.  Mr. Potter was installing an electric meter at 711 East Seneca Street when Mr. Poole was overcome by sewer gas.  Mr. Potter applied the prone pressure method and revived Mr. Poole before a physician arrived."
