Gegg's Red & White Grocery Store at 119-121 N Aurora St

"By the end of the week, Gegg's Red & White at 119 N. Aurora St. will be part of the past.
To old regulars among the customers of the grocery store that has served the public there for 31 years, the closing of the store is like the sad loss of a friend....
[W. Arthur] Gegg has been in the retail grocery business all his life.
He was born in Liverpool, England, and came directly to Ithaca as a boy of 10 with his family in 1922. His father, William B. Gegg, a retired baker, and his mother live at 710 N. Aurora St.
'I started at Atwater's in the old Colonial Building (at 109 E. State St.) when I was a youngster.' He recalled. 'I was a jumper and a driver, and I worked inside the store. A lot of Atwater's rubbed off on me -- service and so forth.'
Then he went into partnership with Clark C. Slocum on Aug. 6, 1937, in a new grocery store at 119 N. Aurora St. The partnership was dissolved about 1950 and Gegg became sole owner and proprietor.
He and his wife have worked alongside the employes."

"Located at the southeast corner of Seneca Way and Aurora St. it is the second all-new building to be completed in Project 1 of the Urban Renewal program, the first being Woolworth's Department Store."
