Description
The Westminster Block, at 321-325 N. Tioga Street, was the dormitory of the Westminster Choir School (temporarily an affiliate) from 1928 to 1931, and thereafter a dormitory for the College until the move to South Hill.

"Once a residential block, this part of Tioga Street has been converted to public and commercial uses. This 1886 Queen Anne brick and wood row house once served as six homes. Aross the street, on the site of the current Tompkins County Courthouse, were four more row houses. Architect Alfred B. Dle designed the building for General Charles F. Blood, a prominent merchant. Originally, the house had three arched entrances alternating with paired windows. Around 1903 the building was used as an Ithaca College dormitory, and two entrances were closed. Follwing a 1990-91 renovation, the building was restored to residential use." "Westminster Hall is the name that has been given to the former apartment house located at Court and North Tioga Streets which was purchased by the Conservatory early this Summer. ... All women students of the Westminster Choir School will reside in this building which can accommodate 60. The hall is ideally situated for these students who will spend much of their time singing in churches. Within a radius of four blocks there are nine churches in which the new students may be asked to sing.” (Source: “Dining Hall New ‘Dorm’ For Conservatory,” Ithaca Journal-News. October 4, 1929, 5.)
