"To accept a patorate in Richmond, Va.; Rev. William D. White has resigned as pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Ithaca. The resignation has been accepted by the church and Rev. B. H. Payne of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been chosen as Mr. White's successor. He was recommended by the retiring pastor.
Mr. White, one of the oldest pastors in service in Ithaca, has capably served for 13 1/2 years as pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church. He erected the present modern church on North Albany Street at a reasonable cost, and is leaving it free from any incumbrance. The property and congregation are held in high esteem by the New York State Baptist Associtaion.
Mr. White has accepted the pastorate of a large church in Richmond, Va., where he is now directing the construction of an edifice that will represent an investment of $125,000 when completed. He desires, he said today, to thank his many friends in Ithaca for their cooperation during his pastorate here, and asks that this coooperation be continued with his successor.
Mr. Payne who succeeds Mr. White has occupied the pulpit since Mr. White's absence in the South on business.
In addition to his duties as a clergyman, Mr. White has been engaged for some time as administrator of the estate of his foster father, Prof. James M. Jackson of Louisa County, Va. Profesor Jackson, who left a large estate, was a teacher for more than 40 years and also practiced law for 20 years."
