Pilgrimage to Gardens Set May 19 1968.
The Ithaca Journal, May 4 1968, P. 10

"The gardens on the tour are: The Arts Quadrangle at Ithaca College; garden at the parking lot entrance to the Tompkins County Trust Co., Seneca St., west of Tioga: Courtyard garden, St. John's Episcopal Church: corner Cayuga and Buffalo St.; President and Mrs. James Perkins, 511 Cayuga Heights Rd.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Treman Jr., 876 Highland Rd.; Prof. and Mrs. William J. Hamilton Jr., 615 Highland Rd.; Prof. and Mrs. Lewis W. Morse, 111 The Parkway: the Walter C. Muencher Poisonous Plants Garden at the State Veterinary College, Cornell University."

"Hillside terraces commanding views of Cayuga Lake and the patterned fields of West Hill, excellence of design and execution, immaculate maintenance, and perceptive use of plants in containers distinguish the gardens planned by Professor Lawson for the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Treman Jr. Thoughtful attention to detail and simplicity in choice of plant material enhance the effect. A screen planting of pin oaks and pines underplanted with viburnum provides privacy. Taxus hedges neatly trimmed and richly green subtly suggest patterns. Semi-circular plantings of shrub roses add variety of texture and, by blossom and fruit, year round color. Rows of lilacs contribute interesting lights and shadows. White birch, espaliered pyracantha, and a magnificent spreading plane tree constitute effective accents."

Note: Professor Lawson was Edward Lawson, in 1940-41 Cornell Directory as "Lawson, Edward, 3331-1154, Associate Prof. Landscape Architecture, 305 White. — 223 Thurston Ave , 9494.
