Obituary for Charles L. Morris
The Ithaca Journal, Aug 15 1950, P. 5

"Charles L. Morris, 82, a lifelong resident of Tompkins County until he moved to Williamsville [Erie County, NY] 4 years ago to make his home with his son, Benn G. Morris, died in Williamsville, Monday, Aug. 14, 1950.
...
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Hanshaw Morris; a son, Benn G. Morris; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews."

Aug 15, 1950

Charles Levi Morris (born 1868) and Emma Frances Morris, née Hanshaw (born 1866), owned and farmed this land for many decades. Their children, Levi (born 1887) and Benn (born 1900) grew up there.  The farm appears in the American Agriculturalist Farm Directory from 1914 as having 59 acres.

They certainly lived there in 1904.  The obituary for Mrs. Elizabeth M. Morris, mother of Charles was in the Ithaca Daily Journal, 15 December 1904, on p.3. It included, "The death of Mrs. Elizabeth M. Morris, widow of Levi Morris, occurred yesterday about 3 o'clock at the home of her son, Charles Morris one mile east of the Kline schoolhouse."  That distance is consistent with the location of the house known since the 1950s as 1426 Hanshaw Rd.

They still owned the farm in 1950 at the time of the census, but had moved to live with their son Benn about 4 years earlier, according to Charles' obituary in the Ithaca Journal.  Charles died in 1950 and Emma died in 1952.

A chronology of deeds between 1914 and 1959, when the farmhouse appeared in the Ithaca City Directory with the address 1426 Hanshaw Rd, follows.  Deeds and maps referred to are all available from the online database service of the Tompkins County Clerk.

[BF144241-001 DEED MISC] Emma's will (dated 12/5/1949, recorded 4/1/1953) left everything to son Benn, who was also executor, if she survived her husband.
[BF084292-001 DEED] Benn G Morris to Rocco P Lucenti, dated 6/17/1957.  Area was 45 acres more or less.
