This building was burned but not destroyed in the fire of 1871 (August 28, 1871).

Newspaper articles about the fire in the Ithaca Journal on August 29, 1871, p1 and 2, note this was a three-story stone building with a blacksmith shop on the first floor and a wagon shop on the second.
