Description
This building replaced the residences at 417 W State St and 419 W State St in 1950.
From 1960-1969 the Sons of Italy rented the building to the Tompkins County Library. See Jane Marcham, "County Library Staff Rings Out the Old Building, Rings in New," Ithaca Journal, January 10, 1969, 9.

"The Italian Mutual Aid Society, Sons of Italy 1146, will observe its 32nd anniversary on April 21, 22, nd 23 with a dedication of its new home at 417-419 W State St. WIth a program of having its members become thoroughly assimilated to American civil life, and taking an active part in it, the lodge has contributed greatly through the years to the betterment of the whole community as the status of those of Italian ancestry.... Organized in April, 1918, the Lodge affiliated with the Grand Lodge with headquarters in New York, in May, 1922. The first lodge rooms were those over the present Market Basket Store at State and Albany Sts. In 1928 the society purchased a home at 515 W Seneca St, from the family of Edward Dixon. For the last 11 years the lodge has been located in the Hibbard Block at 102 W State St. During that time the Italian Mutual Aid Society incorporated within the organization of the Italian-American Club,....In 1937 the lodge purchased a plot 76x166 at W State St.., and the erection of a new home began...."
